the article says that records of wetland loss have not been recorded until 2 years ago. between 1990 and 2003 approximitly 84000 acres of wetlands have been lost to stores, subdivions and roads alone in florida. this analysis does not incude wetlands loss to farming and mining. alone in florida 100,000 acres or more of wetlands have been destroyed total troughout florida. between 1993 and2003 florida has replaced only 12,000 acres of wetlands lost to development in florida. some stores such as wal-mart are helping replace wetlands by buying and perserving land so it cand be made into wetlands. a budget for wetland regulation in florida is annualy around 11 million dollars, 5 million dollars less then what the staff needs in order to keep up with the crushing loads.
